About

Christopher Mowder is a writer of science fiction, fantasy and thriller stories.

A native of Kansas (🌻), he graduated from Washburn University with degrees in business marketing and economics. He spent a decade in several marketing roles, culminating in financial services marketing where he oversaw $1.1 billion in 401(k) and 403(b) plans. In 2016, he happily gave up Cubicle-ville to be a full-time dad when his daughter was born. Now instead of suits and sales meetings, he gets libraries and playgrounds, and has never looked back.

He’s been an avid writer and reader all his life, particularly of speculative fiction. He started writing more seriously after college, as financial services has very few wizards, dragons or aliens, and is thus quite boring. (Though he did meet some very strange lawyers that might have been lizard people.)

In 2012, his first novel was a quarterfinalist for the now-defunct Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. Publisher’s Weekly praised it as “intelligent” with “strong dialogue” and “sharp prose,” though ultimately it was not selected for publication. From 2013-14 he studied in the UCLA Writer’s Program, and began publishing short fiction in 2015. In 2022, he became a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA). For a partial list of his stories, please see the Published Work page. Presently, he is on writing sabbatical following the birth of his second daughter. (Priorities, people.)
